About
Ireland is the third-largest island in Europe, and the twentieth-largest island in the world. It lies to the north-west of continental Europe and is surrounded by hundreds of islands and islets. To the east of Ireland, separated by the Irish Sea, is the island of Great Britain. Politically, the state Ireland (described as the Republic of Ireland) covers five-sixths of the island, with Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, covering the remainder in the north-east.
Educational System
Education has always been high valued in Ireland and their reputation for education excellence dates back to the middle ages. Today Ireland boasts one of the high education participation rates in the world and their emphasis on quality attracts over 200,000 international students per year across all levels of education.
Irelands higher education system is broad n scope and is noted for its emphasis on quality, its close links to industry and research and its ability to be creative ,dynamic and flexible. participation rates are high with almost 60% of students who have completed second level going on to third level. Entry to third level is therefore keenly competitive
The higher education system includes the universities and the institutes of technology -which are publicly funded-and independent colleges which are privately funded. in the universities, quality is assure both by the Irish Govt and the universities own internal and international peer based mechanisms. the Irish Govt agency, HETAC, provides stringent quality assurance for the non-university sector.
Universities-All of the Irish Universities are public institutions and offer a wide range of undergraduates and postgraduates, as well as post doctoral and research opportunities. they are all involved in leading edge research programmers often supported by government, and they have close links to business and industry.
Institutes of Technology- the ever-increasing demands of Ireland’s high technology economy have ensured that our higher education technological sector offers programmers to highest standards and at al levels from craft, through technicians, to under graduate and postgraduate degrees in science and technology, as well as in business, hospitality and humanities.
Independent College-side by side with publicity funded tertiary sector are number of independent institutions, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmers, primarily in a range of specializations sought after by industry and commerce.
